The range of speeds is 20km / hour (T550) to 16km / hour (S300). Both are fast, with the 20km / hour a serious sprint for all but the tallest and fittest runners. You can also factor the incline with these top speeds. Fat burning and endurance training will be fine between 16 and 18km / hour. If you have an athlete in the family, then the higher speeds make a big difference. Your size counts with the running surface sizes. Only the T550 comes close to the size of commercial gym running machines. This is 156cm long and 51 cm wide. Width is important, as wider running surfaces are safer. Aside from these two differences, they are very similar in build quality, motor output, incline settings, frame vibration and running surface. The motor is the same as its sibling so you will find a powerful 2.5HP (1800W) continuous DC motor with a peak power output of 4.5HP (3600W). The price difference between this and the older model is not that great and there was never an issue with the motor so we are confident that this newer model will have no issues using the same tech.
This makes the S400 ideal for home use and with a total weight of 69kg you will be glad to know it also comes with handy transport wheels so you can manoeuvre it around the room to your favourite position for your run. Safety is always a top priority when it comes to fitness equipment, and JLL treadmills are no exception. Considering that the electronics are one of the major things the S400 improves over its predecessor, they’re just as excellent as you might expect. The monitor is easy to use, with well laid out controls that are simple to understand and adjust, because they’re always within arms reach even when running at high speeds. The top speed of the S400 is 16KM/H and there are 20 levels of incline to contend with. The speed and incline settings are fully adjustable and can be used as part of a pre-set programme or controlled manually using the centre console – everything is powered for you and the smoothness between incline and speed settings is very smooth indeed.Some might call the console a little basic. Personally, I’m fine with this. I’m here to run, not to marvel at technology or enjoy any bells and whistles. Drinks holders are quite small and only really suitable to put your phone in. Doesn’t allow for a bottle to sit well as not quite deep enough. The JTX Sprint 9 is one of our larger offerings, so buyer beware – you may need to make sure you have plenty of available space if you want it. It is easily stored in the corner of a large, dedicated space like a garage. However, it may be slightly on the bulky side for your airing cupboard. We were excited to start testing the S400 and we had to try and not get carried away with our assessments before we have even set foot on the treadmill – after all, we had a good 3-4 weeks of testing ahead of us.
